Within County Cork, the proposed development will consist of refurbishment works to 39.3km of overhead line, 14 no. steel towers and 204 no. wooden polesets. These lie between Knockraha Substation, in the townland of Ballynenelagh, and the border with County Tipperary in the townland of Glenduff, crossing the County Cork townlands of: Ballynanelagh, Knockraha East, Meeleen, Shanballyreagh, Barnetstown, Mitchellsfort, Meenane, Skahanagh South, Skahanagh North, Coolquane, Scartbarry, Ballyready, Ballyda, Baneena South, Lackabeha East, Hollyhill, Ballinterry, Clykeel South, Ballynanelagh, Clykeel North, Knockauduff, Ballinvarrig West, Kill-Saint-Anne South, Kill-Saint-Anne North, Ballyoran, Glenarousk, Strawhall, Ballyvadona, Carrigabrick, Gearagh, Carrigatoortane, Mountrivers, Moorepark, Ballyderown, Knockanohill, Glansheskin, Kilclogh, Macroney Upper, Castlecooke, Coolaneague, Curraghanolomer, Ballard, Curraghavoe, and Glenduff. The proposed development includes 4 no. temporary construction compounds in the townlands of Moorepark, Ballinvarrig West, Barnetstown, and Skeheen. The works in County Cork will consist of: the replacement ('restringing') of the existing overhead line (OHL) circuit conductor wires; replacement of 7 no. towers and 82 no. polesets with similar dimensions and heights as the existing; installation of 5 no. new towers and 1 new no. poleset at Barrymore Substation and the removal of 2 no. towers; installation of replacement parts on towers and polesets; foundation refurbishment/strengthening and recapping/clearing of shear blocks; all associated site development works, including temporary works areas; clearance of shear block bases; vegetation maintenance works; ancillary site preparation works, site clearance and levelling at the 4 no. temporary construction compounds, temporary works to existing tracks and new temporary access routes to each structure; and all associated works required to facilitate the proposed development. A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) will be submitted to the Planning Authority with the application.
