A new Corporate Support Services building of 4,757m2 gross internal floor area on a site of 0.953ha within the overall campus of Institute of Technology Carlow. The proposed application site is located on the Northern end of the Institute of Technology Carlow campus, West of the Aerospace, Mechanical & Electronic Engineering building and North of the Nore building. The proposed building will be located on the footprint of the recently demolished and removed Vocational Education Committee School buildings (PL Reg. Ref. 15/54). The building will be 4 storeys, with a central splayed atrium and rooftop plant and screening. Fundamentally the design is based on a simple rectangular form diagonally across another simple rectangle. The diagonal form being the main entrance and circulation, the remainder of the corporate support functions orientated either side of the atrium of the splayed atrium volume. The atrium serves to provide a clear arrival space to the building, containing the new campus reception function (and associated back office) and the primary vertical circulation lifts and feature accommodation stair in readily understandable and easily intelligible positions. On the South of the building there will be a commercial kitchen and dining space on ground floor and a café and associated seating area on the first floor. A service yard will be positioned on the East façade of the building to serve these catering facilities. A single storey maintenance and storage building incorporating a sub-station will also be constructed to the East of the site, of 206 m2 gross internal floor area. Therefore, the total area of the proposed development is 4,963m2. An existing service yard and 2 small plant rooms (31m2 gross internal floor area) will be demolished as part of the development. The application site will be accessed from the existing vehicular entrance and surface carparking off the Kilkenny road, with the addition of a new road and carparking spaces to the East of the proposed corporate support services building. A new landscaped plaza will be created to the West of this building and sheltered bicycle parking will be provided adjacent to the East façade of the Nore building. This application includes for all site signage, utility connection works, and ancillary site works associated with the project. A Natura Impact State (NIS) will be submitted to the planning authority with the application.
The application site is located on a site measuring 0.435ha on the campus of institute of Technology, Carlow, bounded by the Kilkenny Road to the West, partly on the footprint of the VEC school building for which planning permission for demolition has already been granted (PL Reg. REF 15/54). Permission is sought for a Third Level Educational Health Sciences Building of 6,133 m2 gross internal floor area. The building is part single storey and part four storeys tall, together with rooftop plant and screening. Internally the building is composed of science laboratories, clinics, sports and health science spaces including large gym labs and running track, and administration rooms with a central roof-lit social space on the upper floors and large entrance hall in the South East corner of the building. The site is to be accessed by an existing vehicular entrance to the IT Carlow Campus off the Kilkenny Road. The application includes additionally for proposed landscaping around the perimeter of the building and the removal of trees on the subject site, as well as the provision of 176 bicycle parking spaces to serve the building, including a 105m2 secure and sheltered bicycle store on the Eastern boundary of the campus. The total floor area of the proposed development is therefore 6,238m2. This application includes for all site signage, utility connections and ancillary site works associated with the project.
South East Technological University (SETU) Carlow intend to apply for planning permission at the SETU Carlow Campus, Kilkenny Road, County Carlow, on a site measuring 0.552ha bounded by the Kilkenny Road to the west. The proposed development reflects the previously granted planning application on the subject site under Pl. Ref. 19/492.
